Construction on Song Hill section begins

Construction has begun on the 5.5 mile middle section of the Conover-Phelps Trail. Pitlik & Wick has been contracted to complete the trail section. When the section is done in six to eight weeks, the entire biking and hiking trail will be almost 9 miles long.

“The family-friendly non-motorized trail includes two bridge crossings and most of it is away from any highways,” said Great Headwaters Trails (GHT) president Jeff Currie. “Much of it goes through scenic wetlands and county forest and national forest.”

Currie said there will be a parking area at the Song Hill Lane end of the trail and easy access to the trail for bike riders, walkers and people with disabilities.

The trail is a project of the towns of Conover and Phelps, and GHT, a local all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization.

Completing the last two miles of the trail from Song Hill Lane into Phelps is the next goal of Conover, Phelps and GHT. Donations for funding that $240,000 project are being accepted now. Already in place is a $20,000 donation from the Wisconsin Valley Improvement Co.
