Vilas County News Review: Cloverland Board Unanimously Re-Pledges Support for River Trail Project

The ongoing River Trail project took a step closer to becoming a reality last week when the Cloverland Town Board voted unanimously to reignite its support.

Cloverland had previously been in support of the project since the formation of the River Trail Commission in 2018, but board members at the time voted in July 2023 “not to support the currently proposed trail route” due to safety concerns. The towns of Cloverland and St. Germain and the City of Eagle River are part of the River Trail Commission, along with Great Headwaters Trails Foundation (GHTF), which is a private partner.

The River Trail has been in the works for approximately seven years, in part by efforts made by the GHTF to build a 10.2-mile paved bike trail that would connect the Heart of Vilas Bike and Pedestrian Trail that currently ends in St. Germain with the Three Eagle Trail that starts in Eagle River and travels to Three Lakes.
