GHTF Donates to Support Trail Mainenance
We recently held the Annual Ride with Leinie fundraiser bicycle event which featured a ride with Dick and Katie Leinenkugel on the Conover-Phelps Trail (C-P Trail). The event drew in over 400 participants from across Wisconsin and 15 other states, including as far away as Texas, California, Florida and New York. The GHTF Board voted to share some of this year’s proceeds with the towns of Conover and Phelps to support the Conover-Phelps Bike/Hike Trail maintenance funds.
On September 12, 2024, representatives from GHTF and Friends of the C-P Trail presented checks of $5000 to each town for a total contribution of $10,000 for the trail. This is the second year GHTF has provided this financial support for C-P Trail maintenance. GHTF was a partner with the towns of Conover and Phelps to build the trail initially. GHTF oversaw the project to build the trail and did all the fundraising for the C-P Trail. The trail was completed in 2021 and proves to be an asset for residents and visitors alike. GHTF Vice President and Ride with Leinie Ride Director, Laura Van Valkenberg shared, “As part of our GHTF mission, we’re pleased to continue to support the C-P Trail and, it’s exciting to see the Ride with Leinie grow and bring in so many folks to experience the trail and our beautiful Northwoods.” While annual routine maintenance costs are minimal, each town has established maintenance funds to accumulate funds for larger long-range maintenance needs. In addition to the donation collection boxes at the trailheads in both Conover and Phelps, donations from individuals have also been given directly to the towns to support their maintenance funds.
